Our History

The humble beginnings of the award-winning Voiceworks Audio were housed in a basement in Irvington, NY. Owner Andy Paris had had a 30-year history in the audiobooks industry. In 1989, while working as an intern for a small storefront theatre in TriBeCa, Andy was hired as a proofer by Claudia Howard, who had recently started managing the New York studio for the then upstart company Recorded Books. Little did he know that audiobooks would become a second career, alongside his life in the theatre, TV and film. While directing, writing and acting in several landmark productions, such as The Laramie Project (Emmy Award Nomination) Andy has continued to take a lead role in the audiobook industry.

Hungry to learn all aspects of the business, Andy grew from proofer to sound engineer, to director to editor. He then became a 3-time Audio Award winning narrator. And for more than the last decade, from 2006-2019, Andy was a lead Casting Director for Recorded Books. Countless books that he has narrated, directed and/or cast have gone on to win Golden Headphones, Audie Awards and Voice Arts Awards.

In 2014, having already built his own studio to do independent projects, Andy started Voiceworks Audio, an independent all-purpose vocal audio production facility— from one custom built booth in a basement, Voiceworks has grown into multi-studio space, vocal audio production house still based in Irvington, just a short jaunt from Grand Central Terminal, and a 30 minute drive from Manhattan.

Overlooking the beauty of the Lower Hudson Valley, just a short kayak jaunt from the Pallisades, Voiceworks Audio provides a serene, and convenient, recording option, not only for local residents of Westchester County and further points North, but for New York City and,— remotely through the wonders of modern technology— beyond.
